During the next academic year, this core group of senior faculty will contribute to the Council’s programs and events and engage colleagues and students from across the University in sustained discussions about their work:

Project: The Division: John Doar, the Justice Department, and the Civil RightsMovement

Steven Mackey, William Schubel Conant Professor of Music
Project: Concertos for Underdogs: Timpani and Trumpet

D. Vance Smith, Professor of English
Project: Modernity’s African Unconscious

“It is a pleasure to welcome such a distinguished group of Old Dominion Professors and to support their work,” said Eric Gregory, Chair of the Humanities Council.  “I have no doubt each will contribute to our active community in Joseph Henry House, and nurture the life of the humanities at Princeton.”

Old Dominion Professors are faculty members in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who are full professors and who have been at the University for a minimum of five years. They are appointed for a term of one year, one semester of which would otherwise have been devoted to a regular sabbatical leave. The Professorship extends that leave to one full year.

Next year’s Old Dominion Professors will be introduced to members of the University humanities community on Monday, September 9, 2019, at a Welcome Reception following the 13th Annual Humanities Colloquium.
