In early February, the Department of French and Italian welcomed renowned French director Stéphane Braunschweig as a Short-Term Fellow, for what Professor Florent Masse described as “a most productive, most exciting visit.”
Over the course of a week, Braunschweig’s presence fostered a deep immersion into contemporary theater-making and its classical roots. He addressed “Public Theater in Crisis” and the future of the arts in France during a public conversation, explored the persistence of classical theater works during a public talk, and worked closely with students in FRE 311 / THR 312: Advanced French Theater Workshop, where he attended classes, led rehearsals, and offered feedback to the students.
Braunschweig’s visit is part of a broader collaboration between the Department of French and Italian and the Princeton Humanities Council, which has brought leading French theater artists to campus through its fellowship programs.
