Student Grants and Prizes - Edwin F. Ferris Class of 1899 Journalism Prizes
The Humanities Council awards three prizes of $250 to the best papers submitted to Ferris/McGraw/Robbins seminars. Professors teaching these courses are invited to nominate exceptional papers from their classes. The selection committee takes into account the variety of assignments in different courses and gives equal weight to all kinds of papers, both long and short.
Criteria are: originality, depth of insight, skill of presentation and contribution to a reader's understanding of the topic.
Submissions are judged by a panel of journalists and faculty members who undertake their deliberations at the end of the academic year, after all written work has been completed. Winners are notified during the summer.
